Pond Scum Science

Posted on

You know it's a fun homeschooling day when your project calls for 1-2 tablespoons of pond scum.

In our science group this week we made our own biosphere in a canning jar. If we did it right, our shrimps should survive for about 3 months.

It was very simple – especially since one loving mom went and collected the necessary pond scum for everyone. And the wonderful guy at the pet store helped her pick bitsy snails out of the 85 fish tanks. All we had to do was put our biosphere together.

What we made is also known as a “Tabletop Shrimp Support Module” and there is this free PDF on how to make your own.

Read all that, plus this short article by the author of the PDF, get your pond scum, and have fun.
